Smith & Byford News

Age Concern Epsom

We were recently approached by Age Concern Epsom and asked if we would like to get involved with any of their Christmas projects. Of course, we were more than happy to help! We spent a few hours delivering hampers to sheltered accommodation and residential homes within the local area. Local schools had worked together to donate the content and Age Concern had arranged for volunteers to help wrap and deliver the hampers. The idea was well received and both managers and residents were delighted with the Christmas Hampers. We also really enjoyed spreading some Christmas cheer, all for a good cause.

The Cheam Scream

The Cheam Scream is an annual event involving a Halloween trail around Cheam Village. On the day thousands of children dressed up in spooky costumes and spent the afternoon visiting local shops and businesses collecting treats and sweets! All profits from the cause are donated to a local community cause.
Our Total Home Solutions team were one of the local businesses involved handing out sweets to the trick or treaters, hosting a colouring competition and donating a prize for the best dressed. We also transformed Bobby the Boiler into a Halloween ghost and dressed our Showroom window with lots of eerie decorations.
We would like to thank everybody that entered our ‘Cheam Scream Colouring Competition’. We received a number of fantastic entries and the lucky winner will be revealed this week.

Donation to First Touch

Smith & Byford are passionate about raising money to support local charities. Our staff have collectively raised over £2500, through weekly donations from our staff in order to wear mufti each Friday, and are honoured to have been able to donate this to a charity close to our hearts. On this occasion our chosen charity was First Touch who were first established in 1998 to support babies, families and staff on the Neonatal Unit at St George's Hospital. We are honoured to have been able to help a good cause and wish them all the best in their continued help and support.

Advanced Apprentice of the Year

Smith & Byford would like to congratulate our employee, Billy Steele, for winning the Nescot College "Advanced Apprentice of the Year" Award. Billy started his Apprenticeship with Smith & Byford in October 2015, which involved a vast amount of office based training, in addition to undertaking his NVQ Level 3 in Business Admin at Nescot College. The high quality of work submitted resulted in a fantastic mark, in addition to his work being used as an example for successors.

The award winner, Billy, said:

"I felt that an Apprenticeship was a great alternative choice to University as it enabled me to gain experience as well as a qualification. I really enjoyed my time at Nescot and received a huge amount of support from both the college and Smith & Byford. I have recently started a new role within S&B as a Trainee Contracts Manager which is a great opportunity to continue my development."

Smith & Byford would like to congratulate Billy for all of his hard work and dedication over the past 18 months and wish him all the best in his new role with us.
